One of my favorite songs…well, it’s not actually a song at all but a hypothetical commencement speech written by Mary Shmich and published in the Chicago Tribune. Baz Lurhmann is the individual responsible for turning the essay into a spoken word song.
I’ve listened to the song countless times, I can recite it word for word. Over and over I’ve listened to it, in the car, at Zumba, at work, repeating the words in my head but every time I listen to it, it’s like I learn something new. The song resonates. In fact, as silly as it might sound, it often brings me to tears.
I have some things to share with you in future blogs that I’m very excited about. One of the lines in this song has been especially inspiring in putting together future posts.
“Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for good.”
So, go listen to the song! It’s long but it’s packed with life lessons and well worth it. Also, stay tuned…I have someone to introduce to you that is a huge inspiration to me.
I love this song, as well. It also has brought me to tears many times also. The words really put things into perspectiive. Live life to its fullest, don’t worry about what others think and be happy. I am so enjoying this blog and happy that you have finally gotten around to writing it. I love you and can’t begin to tell you how thankful I am that you are such a fighter!!!!! There was a reason I accidentally stumbled upon D2G back in 2012!!!!! You have made my world a better place!!!!!!! Thank you!
Thank you Teri! I’m so thankful for you as well 🙂
I haven’t heard this in a long time. It is a great reminder. I can’t wait to read your upcoming posts.
